Love That Models Christ
~ Michael Clymer
Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul + Philadelphia, Pa.
Love is a word that we use every day, and we mean love in different ways: I love my spouse differently than I love my friends, and I love my spouse and friends differently than I love music or food. But what does Jesus mean when he says to love one another?
Jesus gives us the answer in how He loves us. His love for us is most evident when He sacrifices his life on the cross. Jesus invites us to love others in this same way - the cross is our model. To imitate Jesus is to give of yourself in service of others, to be willing to lay your life for another’s good, especially to lead others to Christ. We live in a culture that needs people willing to put others before themselves. Jesus’ command invites us to go “all in” when it comes to self-giving love. This love says: I am going to put my desires and my will aside to do what is best for my spouse, my child, my coworker, and yes, even those I don’t get along with; I am willing to love you even when I am tired or you don’t deserve it, and I am not going to expect any gratitude in return. This is when our love truly models Christ, and, when extended to those who may not deserve it, our love becomes mercy.
Answering the call to love as Christ loves, we will make Jesus present in the world, people will know that we are His disciples, and they will even see in us the joy that radiates from those who personally know and follow Christ. Jesus will give us all the grace we need to love others with the same love that He has for us.

Your donations will help pay for:

Cell Phone Reminder
Once again, we need to remind everyone to silence their cell phones during Mass. Unexpected electronic sounds lead others to lose their focus during a time that all hold sacred. So we ask you, please, to honor this request and double-check your phone when you enter church.
Financial Facts
We thank those parishioners who, recognizing God’s gifts to them, make their response in our weekly collection. Your continued support is vital, necessary, and deeply appreciated.

Catholic Human Services Has a Name Change
Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia – the umbrella entity that administers charitable works of mercy through more than 40 programs providing food, housing, and vital support to people throughout the region – announced it is changing its name to Catholic Charities of Philadelphia, returning to that organization's roots.
According to an article by Gia Myers of Catholic Philly, one factor that led officials to reexamine the name of the organization was apparent confusion among Catholics over how or whether the more than 40 Catholic agencies spread over multiple divisions such as Catholic Social Services were related. Research with focus groups found that they preferred the simplified name Catholic Charities of Philadelphia.
The organization will continue to deliver the same well-loved and much-needed services throughout the five counties that make up the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
This change aligns with the Jan. 5 pastoral letter from Archbishop Nelson Pérez which outlines his Trust and Hope vision.
Update on DMI Survey from CLI
THANK YOU for participating in the DMI. To date, over 30,000 surveys have been completed for the Archdiocese in total. Catholic Leadership Institute is beginning to process the paper surveys sent forward so that your Pastor will be able to access the full results, understand the DMI reports and communicate those to the parish. The timing for post-DMI sessions for Pastors/Points-of-Contact/Key Leaders will be communicated by the end of May.
