Principal’s Announcements

Important Dates -   Thursday, February 28th:  4th through 8th grade’s trip to the Kimmel Center; Friday, March 2nd:  Dress-Down Day for all (no cost) and Noon Dismissal for a Faculty Meeting; Tuesday, March 6th:  1st grade’s trip to the Aquarium and the Shrine of St. John Neumann; Tuesday, March 20th:  Report Cards will be sent home.

InView and Terra Nova Testing - 4th, 6th, and 7th grades will be taking the InView test on Thursday, March 1st.  Kg, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grades will be taking the Terra Nova test the week of March 5th.  Due to Act 89 budget cuts, the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 8th grades will not be taking any standardarized testing this year.   

School Uniform Information – Our uniform provider, Rose, has merged with Flynn & O’Hara.   The Rose Uniform store on Moreland Road is closed.  Uniforms are now available at Flynn & O’Hara ( www.flynnohara.com ).  We will continue to sell the informal uniforms in the school office. 

Catholic Schools Week – Faith. Academics. Service:  Our students’ competitions were a success!  The 3rd and 4th grades competed in a Spelling Bee; the 5th and 6th grades competed in a Religion Bee; and the 7th and 8th grades competed in a Social Studies Bee.  Teams were divided into Maroon and Gray – our school colors.  Each class from Pre-K thru 8th competed in various relay races with the winning team getting a point for either the Maroon or Gray team.  The winning team was Gray – because all students participated, there will be a Dress Down Day on March 2nd. 

Henry Ossawa Tanner:  Modern Spirit – On Wednesday, February 1st, the 8th grade walked to the Wadsworth Library to learn about Hernry Ossawa Tanner, who was an AME Bishop who grew up in Philadelphia after the Civil War.  They not only learned about Tanner’s art, but participated in a workshop during which they created a portait.   The presentation was hosted by the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

The Story of Brass Instruments Presentation -  On Friday, January 27th, the Chestnut Brass Company made a presentation to our 4th thru 8th graders.  The group presented a musical history and technology tour of the  the development of brass instruments.

 The Blue Ribbon Commission - The Archdiocese of Phila. announced the recommendation of its Blue Ribbon Commission on schools on Friday, Jan. 6th.  Saint Raymond Schools remains open.

Faith in the Future (the website that provides information on schools in transition)

On Line Grades: Parents are able to view their child’s grades online starting Monday, December 19th.  Parents received the viewing information and their child’s ID at the Report Card Conferences on Thursday & Friday, December 15th and 16th.   We are using Engrade and parents can view a parent demo video using the following link:    http://vimeo.com/31628550

Children’s Scholarship Fund Philadelphia will be awarding 2,000 new, four-year K-8th grade scholarships to low-income Philadelphia families seeking to expand the educational options for their children.  CSFP scholarships are awarded by random lottery and may be used at any private or parochial school in the Philadelphia area.  Applicants may apply online  at www.csfphiladelphia.org  or call 215-670-8411.   Deadline for applications is March 1, 2012.

BLOCS Scholarship – The BLOCS Student Aid Form for 2012 – 2013 is now available at www.blocs.org.  If you do not have online access, a Student Aid Form is available in our school office.

Clay Studio – The Claymobile is working with our 7th grade class!  The Claymobile Residency is a set of six ceramics classes held by a professional clay artist and their assistant.   The 7th grade is participating in these weekly classes during their Fine Arts class starting January 12th.
